Lessons Learned while Roadtrippin'

I occasionally write posts on Lessons I've learned through various events in life.

So in honor of this being the summer of Mother/Daughter Roadtrips with my mom, I thought...

Why not write a post on lessons learned earned while on these roadtrips?!

So here ya go...

Double check your playlist. Your mom may not care for all of your music :)

On second thought... Ditch the music and spend that time actually talking to each other.

Being stuck in a confined space with another human being, especially one incredibly similar to yourself, can be an adventure in itself.

Use the GPS. Don't be over confident - especially if you're directionally challenged.

Share expenses with your roadtrip buddy.

Allow time for unexpected surprises.

Bring a sweater/jacket. You can always add on more layers. But you can only take off so much before getting arrested for indecent exposure ;)

Playing games can be a great way to pass the time.

The ABC game gets boring after a while.

Two drivers are far better than one.

People watching can provide quite the entertainment.

Packing snacks is a great way to save money.

Nobody likes a backseat driver.

Compromise. It's important.

Don't be afraid to explore somewhere new.

Choose hotels that offer a continental breakfast. One free meal - check!

Sweat the small stuff? Who has time for that?!

Grab a few extra napkins when you stop for lunch. It's inevitable that someone will spill something in the car.

And speaking of that...

Always check the lid on your drink before leaving the drive thru. The workers don't always put them on tightly. In case of spills, see item above :)

Always lock your doors.

When you park, note your car's location. Memories aren't what they used to be :)

Wal-Mart is everywhere.

So is McDonalds.

It is possible to eat healthy on the road. Yes, even at fast food places.

Ignore your phone, iPod, iPad, computer, etc.
